In response to Cheri’s “Grand Challenge,” I offer a grand chicken, otherwise known as Diatryma. Diatryma was a 7 to 8 foot tall, 380 pound ancient vestige of the dinosaurs that lived some 50,000,000 years ago during the Eocene Epoch. It ranged through parts of the United States and Europe. The fossil footprint seen here was found in the foothills of the Cascasde Mountains near Mt. Baker in Washington state. The painting is a depiction of the diatryma rendered by Marlin Peterson, 2011.
